Lynn Kidd earns ACC Player of the Week Honor

One of the big stories through the first 12 games of the 2023-24 season for the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team has been the production that the Hokies are getting on the inside from Lynn Kidd. He has been very good for head coach Mike Young at both ends of the floor.

Early in the season, he has been a double-double machine for Virginia Tech and on Tuesday, he was rewarded for his monster effort last Thursday against American at home in the final game before the Holiday break.

In Virginia Tech’s 77-55 win over the Eagles, the Hokies played without junior point guard Sean Pedulla for the second time in three games, but freshman Brandon Rechsteiner started and played very well in place recording 11 assists. Kidd made his teammate’s job easier with a great effort.

Kidd scored 31 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and made 14 field goals, including his first nine of the game. It was his fourth double-double of the season and what’s been even more impressive is that his free throw shooting had been very good, something that Young hopes will continue into ACC play and as the physicality play will pick up, especially in the post.

Virginia Tech sits at 9-3 as conference play begin in full this Saturday when the Hokies travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina to play Wake Forest. Virginia Tech is 1-0 in the ACC after a 75-68 victory over Louisville at Cassell Coliseum on Dec. 3, while the Demon Deacons have yet to play an ACC game.

Kidd is going to be vital to any success the Hokies are going to have in ACC play and if he can continue to play the way he has in the non-conference, that bodes well for any success Virginia Tech will have.
