Chinese smartphone brand Honor, formerly under Huawei Technologies Co, has pulled its team out of India, chief executive Zhao Ming said, as New Delhi continues to tighten its scrutiny of Chinese companies.

Honor formed the team a few years ago, but chose to leave for “obvious reasons”, Zhao was quoted as saying during the company’s smartphone launch event on Thursday, in a report by state-run newspaper Securities Times.

The Shenzhen-based company’s Indian business will remain in operation, managed by local partners, Zhao reportedly said, but the brand will adopt a “very safe approach”.

Credit Suisse will recruit more than 1,000 staff in its India-based tech operations this year, as the country becomes the bank’s global technology innovation centre. When the recruits are on board, 25{cb3fe4c54de06d7c4b8dceae281fb32e521027d1659af7adec2f427d2f5333d9} of the bank’s global IT workforce will be in India.

The new recruits will be developers and engineers working with the technologies required as the company digitally transforms.

India has banned another 47 Chinese apps just weeks after the country blocked popular video-sharing platforms TikTok and WeChat as well as 57 others over national security and privacy concerns.

“We have banned 47 mobile apps from China in this ongoing exercise which highlights the government’s seriousness about data privacy and security,” an official told news agency AFP.

A notice sent by WeChat on Saturday to an undetermined number of Indian users read, “Pursuant to Indian law we are unable to offer you WeChat at this time.”
